SOIL WATER RELATION

HOLARD: The total amount of water present in the soil.

CHESARD: Water available to the plants.

ECHARD: Water that can not be absorbed by plants.

GRAVITATIONAL WATER: After heavy rain the water that penetrates through the dry layers of the soil under the influence of gravity. This water is not available to the plants.

CAPILLARY WATER: Water present in the spaces between soil particles.This water is available to the plants.

HYGROSCOPIC OR IMBIBE WATER: Water held by soil particle due to cohesive forces. Plants can absorb a small quantity of water.

RUNAWAY WATER: Major part of water that flows on the surface of soil.Not absorbed by plants.

CHEMICALLY COMBINED WATER: Water combine with the minerals in soil this water is also not available to the plants.
