MEIOSIS-II
Two chromatids of each chromosome separate and then distribute to the daughter cell. The chromosome number remain the same as produced by meiosis-I hence meiosis—II is known as homotypic division.
•Phases of meiosis-II : PROPHASE-II , METAPHASE-II , ANAPHASE-II , TELOPHASE-II
•PROPHASE –II : Centriole already duplicated, nuclear envelop disappear and chromosome set free in the cytoplasm, spindle form, Chromosome become visible in the nucleus. It is a short phase.
METAPHASE-II: Single metaphase plate form & chromosome take position on the equatorial plate attached to the spindle by kinetochore.
ANAPHASE-II: Two chromatids of each chromosomes start moving towards opposite poles and now they are called chromosomes. Each pole have haploid number of chromosome and haploid amount of DNA. Each daughter cell have one fourth of the original DNA present in the dividing cell.
TELOPHASE-II: Spindle & astral rays disappear, nucleoli & nuclear membrane appear which encloses chromosomes.
CYTOKINESIS: As in meiosis-I by cell furrowing in animal cell and by cell plate formation in plant cell.
•MEIOSIS –II is not mitosis because in meiosis-II:
•1.It occur with haploid chromosome.
•2.Two chromatids are not always similar due to crossing over. 3.Daughter cell are different from parent cell in the matter of gene recombination
